Cost Estimate for Shipping to the USA (2026)
The United States is a long-haul route, so shipping costs more than Asian destinations. Shipping from our Kendal warehouse starts at around $46 USD for 1kg, depending on the courier, speed, and destination city.
Two things matter most for your final cost:
- Weight:Heavier packages are cheaper per kg — the fixed per-shipment cost gets spread out. One 5kg box is almost always cheaper than five separate 1kg packages.
- Speed:Express (5-9 days) vs economy (2-4 weeks) can differ a lot. For clothes and anything that isn't urgent, the economy option saves significantly.

US peak season: Thanksgiving through Christmas (November-December) is the peak volume period for shipping to the USA. Delivery times can stretch by a few days and express rates go up. For year-end shipments, send by early November at the latest.
US Import Duty After the 2026 De-Minimis Change
The rules changed in 2026, and it matters for what you ship: the US ended its old $800 duty-free allowance, but a pending trade deal would let Indonesian coffee and spices enter duty-free once ratified.
Update (2026-07-06): The US-Indonesia Agreement on Reciprocal Trade (ART, 20 Feb 2026) is not yet in force — Indonesia suspended ratification in March 2026. The currently operative US tariff on Indonesian goods is a 10% surcharge under Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974. The US Court of International Trade ruled this surcharge unlawful on 7 May 2026; it is expected to expire around 24 July 2026, with a replacement regime anticipated. The US $800 de-minimis elimination (E.O. 14324, Aug 2025) remains in effect regardless. We will update this guide when the tariff regime is settled.
The $800 de-minimis ended (Aug 2025)
The US scrapped its $800 Section 321 duty-free allowance (E.O. 14324, 29 Aug 2025). Parcels now go through formal customs entry and duty can apply from the first dollar — so it's now what you ship, not just the value, that decides the duty.
No VAT at Customs
Unlike Europe or Australia, the US doesn't charge VAT/GST at the border. Sales tax is a matter for domestic marketplaces/sellers — not a customs charge on your personal shipment.
Coffee & spices 0% under the pending agreement, most other goods ~19%
Under the pending US-Indonesia Agreement on Reciprocal Trade (20 Feb 2026, not yet ratified), Indonesia-origin coffee, cocoa, spices and palm oil would enter at 0% duty (~1,819 tariff lines). Most other Indonesian goods would carry roughly 19%. Until ratification, the operative tariff is a 10% Section 122 surcharge — see the update callout above. Items Prohibited & Restricted into the US
Duty aside, the inspection of goods is serious — especially for food and animal products. The practical rule of thumb:

Tips to Save on Shipping to the USA
- 1.Consolidate your packages.
Long-haul routes like the US benefit most from consolidation. Shop from several Tokopedia/Shopee stores, gather everything at our Kendal warehouse, and ship as one box — your shipping cost per item can drop by up to 60%.
- 2.Lead with the 0%-duty categories.
Since the $800 de-minimis ended, the product matters more than the value. Under the pending 2026 trade deal, Indonesian coffee and spices would enter the US at 0% duty — the most cost-effective things to ship once the agreement is ratified — while most other goods would carry ~19%.
- 3.Pick economy for non-urgent items.
The gap between express and economy to the US is large. Clothes, books, and souvenirs you're not in a hurry for are cheaper via the 2-4 week economy lane.
- 4.Repack to cut volumetric weight.

If Your Card Gets Rejected on Tokopedia/Shopee

Tokopedia and Shopee very often reject credit/debit cards issued by US banks — Chase, Bank of America, Citi, Wells Fargo, Capital One, including virtual cards.
