How to Ship a Package from Indonesia to Thailand (2026 Guide)
Thailand and Indonesia share more than ASEAN membership. A growing appetite for Indonesian products — particularly halal-certified food, specialty coffee, and cosmetics — has created steady cross-border demand. But 2026 brought a major customs change: Thailand abolished its THB 1,500 de-minimis exemption. Every parcel is now assessed for duty and 7% VAT from the first baht. This guide covers the updated rules, shipping options, and how IndoShip's Personal Shopper removes the payment barrier. See our Thailand shipping page for real-time rates.
Why Ship from Indonesia to Thailand?
Bangkok's cosmopolitan shoppers and the Muslim-majority southern provinces both look to Indonesia for goods that are either unavailable locally or significantly cheaper at source. Indonesian halal-certified food, specialty coffee (Gayo, Toraja), and cosmetics (Skintific, Somethinc) consistently perform well with Thai buyers — often at 30–50% below local retail.
Yet shipping between the two countries is not as straightforward as domestic logistics. Language barriers, payment rejection on Indonesian e-commerce platforms, and unfamiliar customs procedures stop many potential buyers. The most popular items shipped from Indonesia:
- • Indonesian coffee (Gayo, Toraja, Kintamani)
- • Halal food and snacks (Indomie, sambal, kerupuk)
- • Batik and textiles
- • Skincare and cosmetics (Skintific, Somethinc)
- • Rattan and home goods
- • Herbal and jamu products
Shipping Options and Transit Times
Economy Surface (Pos Indonesia + Thai Post)
The most affordable option for non-urgent shipments. Pos Indonesia cooperates with Thai Post under ASEAN postal agreements, making it possible to send packages from Jakarta or Kendal to Bangkok, Phuket, or Chiang Mai at competitive rates. Transit time is typically 14–28 business days. Best suited for dry goods, non-perishable food, textiles, and cosmetics that are not time-sensitive. Tracking is available through both postal systems, though updates become less frequent once the package transfers between carriers.
Express Courier (DHL)
When speed matters, express couriers like DHL deliver to most Thai addresses within 3–7 business days. DHL has the strongest Indonesia-Thailand network, with daily flights between Jakarta and Bangkok. Express shipping costs more — typically 2–3× economy rates — but includes door-to-door tracking, faster customs clearance, and lower risk of loss or damage. Recommended for electronics, supplements, and high-value textile or batik orders.
| Criteria | Economy | Express |
|---|---|---|
| Transit time | 14–28 days | 3–7 days |
| Tracking | Partial | Full end-to-end |
| Cost | Lowest | 2–3× economy |
| Best for | Non-perishable goods, textiles, cosmetics | Electronics, supplements, time-sensitive orders |

Thailand Customs: Import Duty and VAT (2026 Update)
De-Minimis Abolished — 1 January 2026
Thailand's previous THB 1,500 de-minimis exemption has been permanently removed under Thai Customs Notification No. 219/2568. Since 1 January 2026, every parcel entering Thailand is assessed for import duty plus 7% VAT regardless of value. Point-of-sale collection is being arranged through major e-commerce platforms.
Import Duty — No Flat Rate
Import duty is the normal tariff for each item's HS code. There is no flat or minimum rate. Typical ranges:
- • Fashion and footwear: up to ~30%
- • Bags and accessories: up to ~20%
- • Electronics: ~10–20%
- • Some staples: near 0%
7% VAT — Applies from ฿1
7% VAT applies on top of duty, calculated on customs value plus duty. The 7% rate is a reduced rate currently extended through 30 September 2026. The statutory rate is 10%, so it is subject to government renewal beyond that date. Budget the 7% from the start — there are no surprises if you plan for it. ATIGA: 0% Duty with Form D
Under ATIGA (ASEAN Trade in Goods Agreement), goods of Indonesian origin generally qualify for 0% import duty when accompanied by a Form D certificate of origin. This is a duty preference only — the 7% VAT still applies regardless of ATIGA. For commercial shipments, the sender should obtain a Form D from the local chamber of commerce or authorized body.
How Duties Are Collected
- • E-commerce platforms: Lazada, Shopee, TikTok Shop collect duties and VAT at checkout.
- • Express couriers: Couriers like DHL handle customs clearance and collect duties and VAT from the recipient before delivery.
- • Economy postal: Standard postal parcels that attract duty may require the recipient to clear items and pay at the local post office.
DDU Shipping — Recipient Pays on Arrival
IndoShip ships DDU (Delivered Duty Unpaid). The recipient in Thailand settles duty plus VAT with the carrier on arrival. Express couriers typically notify by email with a payment link; postal shipments may require pickup and payment at the local post office.
Popular Indonesian Products for the Thai Market
Indonesian coffee
Gayo, Toraja, and Kintamani single-origin beans enjoy strong demand among Thai specialty coffee drinkers. Kopi luwak is a high-value niche. Explore the coffee selection.
Halal food and snacks
Indomie, instant rendang, kerupuk, and sambal are staples for Thai consumers who know Indonesian brands from travel or regional media. See the snacks and food hub.
Skincare and cosmetics
Brands like Skintific and Somethinc have growing followings in Thailand, often at 30–50% below local retail. These ship well in small parcels via express courier.
Rattan and home goods
Indonesia is the world's largest rattan exporter, and Thai interior designers source directly for competitive pricing.
Personal Shopper for Thai Customers
Thai shoppers frequently encounter a problem: Indonesian e-commerce platforms like Tokopedia and Shopee Indonesia reject foreign credit cards. This is where IndoShip Global's Personal Shopper service bridges the gap.
How it works:
- Paste the Tokopedia or Shopee product URL into our anonymous quote form — no registration required.
- Once you accept the quote, our team purchases the item on your behalf using local Indonesian payment methods.
- The package arrives at our Kendal warehouse. We weigh it, you pay shipping, and we forward it via your chosen courier.
Two payment legs:
- • Leg 1 (Accept): Item cost + service fee ($4 flat per store + 5% currency conversion + 3% payment processing)
- • Leg 2 (Pay Shipping): Actual shipping cost based on weight and chosen service, paid once the item reaches our warehouse
This avoids surprise charges — you know the item cost upfront and decide on shipping only after seeing the packed weight.
Sample Scenarios
Suwanna in Bangkok — 5 kg of Gayo coffee beans
Economy shipping through Pos Indonesia — approximately 14–21 days. Declared value around $60 USD. Under Thailand's 2026 rules, duty is assessed at the item's HS code rate plus 7% VAT on the duty-inclusive value. Indonesian-origin coffee beans may qualify for 0% duty under ATIGA with a Form D certificate of origin (duty preference only — VAT still applies). The recipient settles duty + VAT with the carrier on arrival.
Anong in Phuket — batik fabric from a Tokopedia seller
Her Thai card is declined at checkout. She submits the URL to IndoShip Global's quote form, receives a quote within 24 hours, pays the item cost, and selects express DHL shipping after the fabric arrives at the Kendal warehouse. Total door-to-door: under 10 days.
Tips to Save on Shipping to Thailand
- 1.Consolidate your packages.
Shop from multiple Indonesian stores, gather everything at the Kendal warehouse, and ship as one box. Consolidated shipping drops the per-item cost significantly — especially for small cosmetics and snack orders.
- 2.Use ATIGA Form D for commercial shipments.
If you are importing for resale, obtain a Form D certificate of origin. Under ATIGA, Indonesian-origin goods qualify for 0% import duty — a significant saving on categories like fashion and textiles where duty can reach ~30%. Note that 7% VAT still applies regardless.
- 3.Ship before October 2026 to lock in 7% VAT.
Thailand's 7% VAT is a reduced rate extended through 30 September 2026. If the government does not renew the reduction, the rate reverts to the statutory 10%. Shipments arriving after that date may face the higher rate.
- 4.Declare value honestly.
With the de-minimis abolished, undervaluing no longer saves duty on small shipments. Misdeclaration risks seizure by Thai Customs — a far costlier outcome than the honest duty and VAT.
